À Terre V

An equine ballet. A horse's foot can signifies many things: strength, grace, and beauty.

Positioned close to the kiln's flames, this sculpture features an exquisite texture and thick glaze, both outcomes of the transformative wood ash.

Note: This piece cracked at the top during the extreme temperature of firing. The crack has been repaired and highlighted with a cold finish.

Title: À Terre V
Medium: Wood fired ceramic
Size: 9in tall

What is wood firing? Wood is the oldest method of firing clay. As the wood burns it generates ash that transforms into a unique glaze, giving each piece a distinctive character. Wood kilns must be kept burning continuously for days to ensure they reach a high enough temperature to melt the ash.
