This series of 10 sculptures stemmed from my interest in foals: their exaggerated anatomy, lively movement, and their new-ness to the world. The layered clay and raw paint application give each sculpture a sense of vitality.
These pieces were created for an exhibition called "Positively Petite" where no piece could be more than 4" (10cm) tall or long.
Each foal's body was created by layering lightweight clay over a hand-wrapped wire frame, and hand-painted using matte acrylic paints. The pieces were then sealed using an archival matte varnish.
