Very informative for beginners
Liked the attention to detail in the steps, good for total newbies to sculpting with clay. Lots of tips for getting started. Would recommend.

Most helpful guide for air-dry clay sculpting!
Being new to air-dry clay sculpting this concise book gave me all the guidance and tool recommendations that I needed and hoped for. Susie explains the process in a way that makes this medium feel accessible and exciting, and after looking for guidance on this subject I feel I tryout stumbled onto a gem! I am actually starting with sculpting a cat rather than a horse, but the info provided has me feeling confident that I can tackle any project that I choose going forward. Feeling grateful and super excited for what I might sculpt next. Highly recommend!! Thank you Susie for sharing your knowledge and expertise - a new world of joy is now at my fingertips!

Great info
I'm getting into sculpting with Apoxie Sculpt. Never liked polymer clay because of the baking part. I always seem to get it too hot and the color changes/burns. I'm new to making armatures so your book was super helpful on that. Especially the advice on materials to use. Your horses are very beautiful and I really like the negative space sculptures.

Concise and clear instruction book
This book is concise and clear in its instructions. The templates are immensely helpful when first starting to construct the framework. What I especially liked about the book was that there wasn’t a lot of unnecessary ‘fluff’ of verbiage. The text just focused on giving the reader a step-by-step guide to creating animal sculptures. With the recommended materials at hand, it was easy to have my first dog up and standing, with its first epoxy layer in place over a sturdy frame. Love this book.

Clearly explained
All is clearly explained, but it takes some practise and patience before you can create a beatiful horse ;-)

Clay & Wire Sculpture
I purchased this book to help me make a wire armature for my first attempt of a clay sculpture. It's well illustrated and the step by step instructions helped me to understand the importance of a armature...

Perfect for Homeschooling
The book was perfect as a lesson plan for my homeschooled grandchildren. I teach art to four of them, ages 5 through 16. This is our first venture into sculpture. We have been sculpting a dog for the last few weeks. The photo illustrations are great for showing them step by step what to do next. We all wish we could sculpt like Susie!

I got both books & Love them.
I purchased both books and am very impressed with the amount of information. Susie provides tips, troubleshooting, and a lot of information with pictures. I think one of the things I really liked the most in these books were the proportional measuring guides so you can take your sculpture poses beyond the template guides. I am familiar with wire twisting, so the pictures made sense to me. However, for someone struggling to twist the wires, consider wrapping the middle of your wire length around something solid and stable, like a metal table leg or a screw shank sticking out of a piece of wood (get creative here). Then twist the wires around each other tightly (roughly 6-8 wraps per inch is safety-wire standard) and trim to length. If you use an anchor like this, it's much easier to get evenly spaced twists throughout the length of your wire. Hope it helps someone.
Exposed Sculpture: Creating Animals in Wire and Clay and Sculpting Horses in Air Dry Clay
Susie, thank you for sharing your art and knowledge. You have made armature building very clear to understand. I have recently began animal sculpting again, having basically only craved out of a block of clay. My time consuming search for how to build an armature resulted in many vague or too complicated, maybe a step in the process missing or amateurish looking stick figures. Your book has given me the insight to return to sculpting in a new way with armatures and air dry clay and a strong foundation in how to achieve this . Thanks ! Sandra

Great Introduction
I found this book a really great introduction to creating clay animals. The book isn't very long but covers everything you need to know to create a piece from start to finish. I definitely recommend
